What is Studio 105?

Studio 105's premier Downtown Long Beach location is operated by 15yr veteran acting professional Steven Nelson who is currently working in both film and television. With an emphasis on understanding how to achieve an organic spontaneous performance, our workshops are designed to inspire actors to open themselves up to what is going on in any given story and to make the most out of the scene at hand, on a professional level.

Here are some of the reasons that set us apart:

  • Learn from a current working pro.
  • Lots of personal attention.
  • Being On-Camera every class you will pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Having the opportunity to work with writers and producers who are currently working on new projects.

What's a typical class like??

All classes typically start with a conversation about an acting topic that will be the focus of the day.  Then a scene is handed out by the instructor.  Students are given about 20 minutes to get comfortable with the material and are then put on-camera.  A detailed discussion about the scene will take place before the class views the scenes that they previously performed.  While watching the scenes the instructor will give the student  feedback; pointing out both strengths and weaknesses along with some practical solutions.  The instructor will then have the students take part in an exercise that will further increase their understanding of what is being asked of them in the scene. The class will normally take a break at this point and resume with another round of working on-camera with the scene of the day.  After all the students are placed on-camera once more, the instructor will play back the performances so that the students may see their progress. The class will then typically be dismissed, but the instructor will be available for discussion for a half hour after class.  Students who are hung up or stressed about something acting related will have the opportunity to address it without taking up too much of the normal class time.

"If a writer must see what he writes to know how he thinks, the actor must see how he acts to know what he portrays"
